Dear Readers,
In today's issue, we focus on our automatic system knee joints NEURO MATIC, NEURO TRONIC and NEURO HiTRONIC. We would like to highlight the similarities and differences between the three system joints and make it easier for you to choose the right system joint for your patient.
With best regards from Lüneburg

Comparing Automatic System Knee Joints – Function Video
On the FIOR & GENTZ website, you will find a new function video in which the three automatic system knee joints NEURO MATIC, NEURO TRONIC and NEURO HiTRONIC are viewed in direct comparison. The video uses a visualised movement sequence to provide an overview of exactly when the three system joints lock and unlock in Auto mode in the different gait phases.
NEURO MATIC System Knee Joint
The NEURO MATIC is an automatic, mechanical system knee joint that works entirely without electronics. The system joint is locked via plantar flexion of the ankle joint. It is equipped with a mechanical stance phase control by means of the integrated posterior offset and the patient's remaining function of the knee and hip extension muscles. Depending on the situation, the patient selects between the modes Auto, Free and Lock via a mechanical lever.
In Auto mode, the NEURO MATIC system knee joint performs as follows:
![]() | locked in the direction of flexion from loading response to mid stance |
![]() | free moving from terminal stance to initial contact |
![]() | physiological swing phase possible (with a knee flexion angle of approximately 60°) |
![]() | free moving when standing with minimal safety by means of the integrated posterior offset of the pivot point |
NEURO TRONIC System Knee Joint
The NEURO TRONIC is an automatic, electromechanical system knee joint with microprocessor-controlled stance phase control. The flat, anatomically shaped controller with high-performance microprocessor is discreetly integrated into the lower leg shell of the orthosis. The motion sensors of the controller register the position and movement of the lower leg. Depending on the situation, the patient selects between the modes Auto, Free and Lock via Bluetooth® connection using the User app or the supplied remote control.
In Auto mode, the NEURO TRONIC system knee joint performs as follows:
![]() | locked in the direction of flexion from terminal swing to mid stance |
![]() | free moving from terminal stance to mid swing |
![]() | free moving from terminal stance to mid swing |
![]() | locked when standing with electromechanical stance phase control (motion sensors register the change from walking to standing and vice versa and automatically switch the system joint to the appropriate mode) |
NEURO HiTRONIC System Knee Joint
The NEURO HiTRONIC is an automatic, electrohydraulic system knee joint with microprocessor-controlled stance phase control. The flat, anatomically shaped controller with high-performance microprocessor is discreetly integrated into the lower leg shell of the orthosis. The motion sensors of the controller register the position and movement of the lower leg. The patented microhydraulics of the NEURO HiTRONIC system knee joint also allows for continuous and silent locking and unlocking. Depending on the situation, the patient selects between the modes Auto, Free and Lock via Bluetooth® connection using the User app or the supplied remote control.
In Auto mode, the NEURO HiTRONIC system knee joint performs as follows:
![]() | free moving from terminal stance to initial swing |
![]() | locked in the direction of flexion from mid swing to mid stance |
![]() | locked in the direction of flexion from mid swing to mid stance |
![]() | locked when standing with electrohydraulic stance phase control (motion sensors register the change from walking to standing and vice versa and automatically switch the system joint to the appropriate mode) |
The direct functional comparison confirms that automatic system knee joints are suitable for a wide range of patient requirements and needs.
